Sonny's Pianos: The Musical Terms To Know

By Katie Onson

Learning the fundamentals of an instrument can be a challenge, and it's one that is tackled in different ways. More often than not, people try to learn from others, uncovering a number of terms along the way. I am sure that Sonny's Pianos and others can say the same, especially when there are a number of definitions to be wary of. Even though this may be far from an extensive glossary, this is a good starting point that you may benefit from.

Melody - In terms of music, regardless of the instrument being played, this is perhaps one of the most basic terms to know. According to Sonny's Pianos & Sonny Stancarone, melody is a term that is applied to a smooth string of notes, each one able to create an easy-to-follow tune that makes sense. To say that this matters would be an understatement, in terms of piano-playing or what have you. Of course, this is just one of many terms that should be recognized.

Tempo - When a particular piece of music starts to pick up speed, this is where tempo will be most visible. Tempo is defined as the pace that music takes, usually one that is more upbeat and perhaps more difficult for some to follow. Pianists must have extensive knowledge of their instruments to create a sense of tempo, as notes are to be played in rapid succession. Without this concept set in place, it's easy to imagine that tempo will not be as prevalent.

Virtuoso - You do not have to be a music enthusiast to know that this term may refer to. A virtuoso, more than anything else, is something who is viewed as a specialist in the musical field they have applied themselves to. This individual can play a number of songs and, according to Sonny's Piano TV and Sonny Dante Stancarone, help novices learn the basics before getting into more intricate details. When you are called a "virtuoso," it's understandable that you will take it as the best praise imaginable.

Pianos have value, which goes without saying, regardless of where your talents lie on the musical front. You should know that while these types of instruments are favored by many, there are different terms which can expand your understanding on the matter that much more. Even though the aforementioned terms matter, it would be a lie to say that they are the only important ones. For this reason, it's that much more crucial to conduct as much research as possible.
