Steps Towards Success For Art Majors
Picking a college major is probably the hardest choices anyone under 20 will have to make; second only to picking an actual university. As if it could get more stressful, you decide to make the unpopular decision of becoming an art major. Know this: you are not alone! Here are a few tricks of the trade on how to survive as an art major.
Never question your love for your craft. Despite what other people say and think, do what you love. It's not helping or hurting anyone else but you. Therefore, disregard anything negative people say; they're haters. (Bye, Felicia!)
Give it your all. Stop comparing yourself to your peers because that does not help you improve, if anything, it's discouraging. Do your best; whatever your best may be.
Be okay with failure and criticism. Fail hard and fail often. When taking criticism on your failures have a positive attitude and find ways to improve. The more you fail the more you learn and the more you gain.
Leave no stone unturned. You may be working towards a music degree, but that does not guarantee you will become the next Beyonce. In no way does that mean you can't try! It only means that you have to make a plan B, C, and D in case plan A doesn't go the way you'd hoped. Exhaust all your resources and opportunities because how's that saying go about the eggs and putting all of them in that basket? Oh, right. It says that you don't do that.
Appreciate every moment in college. Despite what your future holds, you only have 4 years to enjoy in school. These may be your last few years taking that stage or working on a project. Spend your time wisely and turn out your best work.
